Vintage Smithy tells it like it is . . .
A diverse audience of around 150 people gathered in the packed bar - bikers, musicians, artists, believers, seekers and cynics among them . . . . for a few moments the pool table, pinball machine and the bar fell silent . . . . John Smith reflects on two stories and opens up the 'old book' in a way that only he does, in a bar.
This recording was made back in 2002 in the public bar of a city centre pub in Swansea, South Wales, at a gathering hosted by Zac's Place.
More reflections from John are available on this podcast

Reflection from a life on the road ...
God's Squad International President, John Smith, reflects on Mark's Gospel Chapter 6 and the importance of a radically transformed life out on the road.
This excerpt was recorded in UK, August 2010, in a gathering of God's Squad members and guests from eight nations. When most people of his age are thinking of slowing down, John continues to stir the pot and encourage the church to action.

Good Friday Focus
The servant grew up before God—a scrawny seedling,
a scrubby plant in a parched field.
There was nothing attractive about him,
nothing to cause us to take a second look.
He was looked down on and passed over,
a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.
One look at him and people turned away.
We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried—
our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
We thought he brought it on himself,
that God was punishing him for his own failures.
But it was our sins that did that to him,
that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Through his bruises we get healed.
We're all like sheep who've wandered off and gotten lost.
We've all done our own thing, gone our own way.
And God has piled all our sins, everything we've done wrong,
on him, on him.
He was beaten, he was tortured,
but he didn't say a word.
Like a lamb taken to be slaughtered
and like a sheep being sheared,
he took it all in silence.
Justice miscarried, and he was led off—
and did anyone really know what was happening?
He died without a thought for his own welfare,
beaten bloody for the sins of my people.
They buried him with the wicked,
threw him in a grave with a rich man,
Even though he'd never hurt a soul
or said one word that wasn't true.

Wired To Love, Valentine's Day
"We celebrate love today. HUMAN LOVE We are wired to love. If you're not on a faith page don't be offended. I love you and Jesus has inspired love in my heart. Sadly multitudes who profess Jesus, hate their enemies and use their friends. They sing, preach, write great books about him, but they don't follow him as the lover of all, even enemies. Faith, hope, love..three essentials, BUT THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE."
